Allison Cairns

Ph.D. Student in Applied Physics

Education

Ph.D. in Applied Physics, PEB Program, Yale University (3rd year)
B.S. in Physics, Portland State University

Research Background and Interests

My research interest is in microscopy techniques and their applications to neuroscience and biology. I have experience in electron microscopy (FIB-SEM and TEM), two-photon calcium imaging, and confocal microscopy.

Work in the Bewersdorf Lab

I am interested in utilizing pan-Expansion Microscopy (pan-ExM) to investigate the connectomics of the mouse cortex, focusing on the relationships between scaffolding proteins and the structure of dendritic spines in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Outside the lab

For recreation, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, skateboarding, surfing, cliff diving, and practicing MMA.
